The workshop held in Pune from 3–6 December 2024 represented a decisive milestone in the structuring of the Franco-Indian Campus for Life Sciences and Health (FIC-LSH). Conceived as a platform bridging academia and industry, the event—jointly organised by the French Embassy in India, the French Institute in India [Know More], and IISER Pune—brought together, for the first time at this scale, the four Campus consortia alongside twenty-one French and Indian industrial partners, including Genext Genomics Pvt Ltd, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Dassault Systèmes, MacGenome Technologies Pvt Ltd, AbGenics LifeSciences Pvt Ltd, Lamark Biotech, Capgemini, Indo-French Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IFCCI), bioMérieux India, ExAdEx-Innov, Link, Syngene International Ltd, Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre – IIT Kanpur, Growdea Technology (IIT-D Startup), Venture Center – Entrepreneurship Development Center, Gattefossé India Pvt Ltd, AIC-SEED, Manastik, TCG Life Sciences, TCG International Biotech Park.
The main objective of the workshop was to stimulate collective reflection on how to enhance synergies between academic research and industrial innovation. Through plenary discussions, thematic roundtables, and targeted bilateral meetings, participants identified practical levers to strengthen a virtuous continuum between education, research, and technological development [Read More]. The initiative also laid the groundwork for the 2026 Franco-Indian Year of Innovation, aligning academic and industrial actors within a shared medium-term strategic vision.
Hosted at IISER Pune, the workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Bhagwat, Director of IISER Pune, and Dr. Nicolas Gherardi, Deputy Counselor for Education, Science and Culture at the French Embassy in India. The programme combined institutional and scientific exchanges, with sessions devoted to the presentation of the Campus and its industrial partnerships, followed by thematic discussions and site visits to local companies and incubators, thereby fostering an environment conducive to innovation and long-term collaboration.
