The inter-consortium thematic group "Biology of Plants and Medicinal Plants" (BIOPLAM) of the Franco-Indian Campus for Life Sciences and Health (CFI-SVS) focuses on the in-depth scientific study of plants, with particular emphasis on their medicinal and therapeutic potential. This theme brings together the distinct and complementary strengths of the following consortia: BIOSANTEXC, ILIADE, SHIELD, and Integrated Health.

coordinated by the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) de Lyon and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune, brings a fundamental and applied dimension in plant genetics, ecology, and plant biodiversity. The consortium is particularly involved in functional genomic analysis and biochemical characterization of medicinal plants, thus providing the scientific foundation necessary for the selection and improvement of promising plant species with therapeutic potential. BIOSANTEXC also organizes cross-research mobility programs and co-supervised doctoral training.

ILIADE, coordinated by the University of La Réunion and the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), plays a leading role in this theme due to its recognized expertise in phytotherapy, plant biotechnology, and pharmacological analysis. ILIADE identifies, isolates, and characterizes active natural molecules from medicinal plants, validating their effectiveness through rigorous experimental approaches and computational tools. The consortium also develops specialized master's level training programs that integrate theoretical and practical knowledge in plant and medicinal biotechnology.

Integrated Health, led by Sorbonne University and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, focuses on the translational and clinical aspects by evaluating the therapeutic efficacy of plant molecules in rigorous clinical and preclinical contexts. The consortium also integrates this knowledge into public health strategies and adapted medical protocols, thereby reinforcing the societal impact of the conducted research.

SHIELD, led by the University Nice Côte d&amp;#39;Azur (UniCA), in collaboration with the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIITD), Ashoka University, and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, offers advanced expertise in bioinformatics, molecular modeling, and artificial intelligence applied to plant biology. SHIELD develops computational models to predict the therapeutic activity of plant-derived compounds, thereby facilitating the identification process of plant-based drug candidates. The consortium actively contributes to academic training in bioinformatics applied to plant and medicinal biology.
